M8) FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLIES FOR OEM ENGINES Used in combination with the 107" (4-1/4" stroke) and 116" (4-5/8" stroke) S&S Super Sidewinder™ kits. 88", 95" and 100" engines can use the 4" stroke OEM flywheel assembly. Engines equipped with 95" S&S 3 7/8", or 100" S&S 4" pistons can be used with the OEM flywheel assembly, without the need to re-balance since S&S pistons are virtually identical in weight when compared to OEM pi- stons. All S&S flywheel assemblies come assembled and balanced. Note 1: S&S crankpins allow the use of replaceable bearing races in the lower end of the connecting rods. The first generation of S&S crankpins, in use up to 2012, were 1.500" diameter. The second genera- tion crankpins, in use since 2013, have the larger 1.671" OEM diameter crankpins. Now S&S & OEM crankpins are identical in diameter so now S&S parts can be used to rebuild stock H-D flywheels, something that previously was not possible since H-D rebuild parts were, and are, not available. Note 2: Engines with strokes exceeding 4" may require S&S piston oiling jets and piston to jet clearance notches in the piston skirt to avoid contact. Note 3: Following is regarding 03-17 models (excl. M8). S&S has designed these flywheels to work with a Timken style sprocket shaft bearing, they will fit stock 99-02 model year and all S&S cases without modifications. Stock H-D 03-17 Twin Cam engines use the same sprocket shaft roller bearing as is used on the pinion shaft, a cost saving but weaker solution. It is possible to use the stock weak 03-17 sprocket shaft bearing kit (OEM H-D 24004-03B) with S&S flywheels in 03-17 stock cases. However, S&S feels this roller bearing will not take the side loads produced in a high performance motor. S&S will not honor any warranty claims in an application where the OEM 24004-03B/24605-07 03-17 sprocket shaft roller bearing style bearing assembly is used. To upgrade to the pre-2003 style sprocket shaft bearing MCS 978517 JIMS conversion tool kit is available. This kit includes a tool, a Timken bearing and a steel crankcase bearing insert for one motor. Bearing inserts only are available as 978519, bearings only as 508960. 84-99 Evo Big Twin (excl. inj.) Stock replacement for 80" (1340cc) Evolution Big Twin models. Flywheels for fuel injected models are notched for use with the required crankshaft position sensor. Used with stock or S&S 536052 series pistons. Re- balancing is not required. Note: For 90-99 models, with stock 3-piece flywheels with non-removable sprocket & pinion shafts, it is re- quired to use pre-90 pinion shaft parts when converting to any (early) 5-piece flywheels assembly. S&S offers these parts as a '90-99 Pinion Shaft Conversion Kit'. Available as stock replacement for 1200cc Shovelheads (3-31/32" stroke), 1340cc Shovelhead and Evolution B.T. models (4-1/4" stroke) and in longer strokes. Note sprocket shaft: OEM sprocket shafts will not fit the 6° taper that S&S flyw- heels have, apart from 81-85 stock style B.T sprocket shafts (OEM 23909-80 / MCS 502615 and 502616) . These will fit S&S flywheels but do not have the keyway that S&S sprockets shafts have. The woodruff key eliminates spinning of the sprocket shaft in the left flywheel. Note pinion shaft: Stock 81-86 type replacement pinion shafts can be used on these S&S flywheels, but S&S pinon shaft assemblies (use 81-86 model year) are offered as well. Note crankpin: Stock 81-99 replacement Big Twin crankpins can be used, but S&S crankpins (use 81-99 model year) are offered as well. Note oil pump: For 90-99 models, with stock 3-piece flywheels with non-removable sprocket & pinion shafts, it is required to use pre-90 pinion shaft parts when conver- ting to any (early) 5-piece flywheels assembly.
